Day 7: Los Arcos to Logroño

Day 6: 11 Oct 2024

Distance (kms): 27.9

Elevation gain / loss (m): 491 / 557

Left Los Arcos before sunrise and about an hour later got to see the sun rise over Los Arcos:

The next towns (just 800 m apart) are Sansol and Torres del Rio:

Breakfast at Torro del Rio:

Church of holy sepulcher in Torres del Rio. Example of mix of Islam and Christian architecture
(see https://torresdelrio.es/patrimonio-artistico/):

Unpicked almonds on a wayside tree:

The king of pop even in Spain:

Getting closer to Logroño:

All day I had issues with my right calf hurting. A few kms to Logroño it was really bothering me. That is when I came to a rest stop and saw a lady and her dog. I had seen both of them the previous day at a rest stop also. I remembered the dog’s name (Lola). As it turned out the lady’s name was Stephanie. Stephanie had been through a lot of physical therapy and she taught me simple stretches that totally relieved my calf pain. It was like magic! Stephanie, the Camino angel!😃

Vineyards along the way:

The next town over is Viana. The church in Viana is where Cesarae Borgia was originally buried. Inside the church:

Lunch is Viana - red wine and croquettes (which of course  come with bread!):

Finally in Logroño!

In the outskirts, a Spanish Civil War memorial:

The last sentence says that a people who forget their history are condemned to repeat it. A lesson for all of us. I suppose we can also learn from other people’s mistakes also.
